About LSS

Lakeland School System (LSS) was established in December, 2013, and serves students living within the municipal boundaries of the City of Lakeland outside of Memphis in Shelby County, Tennessee. The City of Lakeland has approximately 12,500 residents and more than 2,700 school-age students. Students attend Lakeland Elementary School (Grades K-4) or Lakeland Preparatory School (Grades 5-12).
Lakeland School System students consistently excel in academics, athletics, and the arts. Our outstanding students, faculty, and staff members coupled with high levels of community support and involvement are the keys to our success as we strive to Learn, Grow, and Lead together.
We are proud to have been named one of only five Exemplary ACCESS School Systems in the state for our dedication to helping all students succeed. In addition, our school system has been named one of the "Best Communities for Music Education" for the last seven years in a row, and the district was recently named an "Arts Rich School of Merit" by the Tennessee Arts Academy. The Lakeland Preparatory high school baseball team won the 2025 TSSAA State Championship, and multiple teams and individuals compete for state championships each year. Lakeland Elementary School (K-4) is a National Blue Ribbon School, and both Lakeland Elementary and Lakeland Prep are named as Tennessee Purple Star Schools for their commitment to serving our military families. We completed our high school facility in August, 2022, which now serves 9th through 12th grade students.
